Centric Columbus had an awesome day Saturday, June 21, volunteering at The Adaptive Adventure Sports Coalition (TAASC) complex for the 17th Annual Water Sports Weekend. This is the second year that we have participated in this event and Centric was well represented once again.

taascIf you are not familiar with TAASC, their mission is to connect individuals with disabilities, their families, volunteers, and community organizations through a lifetime of adventure sports. They accomplish this by providing volunteer-driven adventure opportunities, promoting teamwork and fostering self-advocacy through coaching and mentoring.  Some of the activities they bring to those with disabilities include alpine skiing and snowboarding, water skiing, kayaking, cycling, fishing, sailing, ice-skating and other sports opportunities.

The Annual Water Sports Weekend kicked off at 8 a.m. with the launch of ten bass boats for various wounded warriors and their families to take in a little fishing. At the end of the event, the winner with the biggest catch claimed a new rod and reel.

Shortly thereafter, our volunteer team participated in many activities that included water skiing, sailing, and kayaking. We also had our team involved with shuttling participants via golf cart from one event to another, helping in the game area, registering participants for events, and cleaning up around the camp.

Others participated as spotters for the boat crews and mounting adaptive chairs on wake boards. This also included helping participants in and out of the boats, making sure that they were properly fitted with the adaptive equipment and, in some cases, capturing the moment with pictures or video.

During lunch, we presented TAASC with a donation of $1,000 to offset the cost of the food and the live band performed by Stadium 11. These guys rocked the house and the remaining crowd was thoroughly entertained.
