In a recent CIO.com article, Karina Myers, Centric Consulting’s Microsoft Cloud Platforms practice lead, identified lack of strategy as a primary factor driving uncontrolled cloud spending.
The article “8 reasons your cloud costs are too high” highlights how organizations can better manage their cloud investments and avoid common pitfalls that lead to wasted resources.
“Without a well-defined and reliable cloud strategy, costs can quickly spiral out of control,” Myers said. “This is particularly true when a thorough total cost of ownership and FinOps analysis hasn’t been conducted to maximize the business value of cloud investments and enable timely, data-driven decision-making.”
Myers also emphasized the importance of establishing a strong cloud foundation that addresses security requirements, governance, compliance, business continuity, and automation standards to create a sustainable environment for current and future needs.
The article outlines some other common ways companies mismanage cloud spending, including inefficient resource management, unexpected AI costs, a poor digital transformation strategy, vendor lock-in, and over-provisioning.
