On this fabulous Friday, we’re talking about taking charge of your own success.
In this Ted Talk by Alain de Botton, he encourages us to be the ones who decide our meaning of success in our lives and careers.
His often humorous 15-minute chat begins by recounting some of the pressures of our modern world and how they impact how we see ourselves and each other. He finishes with a very subtle but powerful message to be wise about how we define success.
Here is what we took away from this Ted Talk…
- Face the reality that you cannot be successful at everything. There have to be some trade-offs (he calls it “the element of loss”).
- Explore where your ideas of success come from. Often times things from other people or society may have crept into your thinking
- Do not give up! Own your definition of success and be the author of your own ambition.
