On Wednesday, January 11, 2017, a few ladies from Centric Consulting hosted an invitation-only networking event to inspire and educate senior Chicago women business leaders.
Centric Chicago‘s Colleen Campbell, Renee Giacalone, Jennifer Hill, Hilary Lee and Colleen McFarland hosted the event, which focused on how women struggle with confidence, how to counteract this alleged problem, and whether the prevailing advice limits or advances our positions.
Female CEOs represent only 4.2% of S&P 500 CEOs. The “confidence gap” has been blamed for women’s inability to rise to the highest ranks in corporate America. Even Sheryl Sandberg talks about feeling like an impostor in her best-selling book, Lean In.
Some recommended reads and presentations on the topic:
- Amy Cuddy’s Ted Talk, Your Body Language;
- Katty Kay and Claire Shipman, The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance: The Confidence Gap;
- Susan Colantuono, The Career Advice You Probably Didn’t Get: Career Advice.
The event served as a unique opportunity to mingle with like-minded women executives, share stories and establish new connections.
