Centric Consulting leaders will participate in the 2024 PASS Data Community Summit, a premier conference for data professionals.
Set for November 4-8 in Seattle, Washington, the PASS Data Community Summit is designed for data professionals to connect, share, and learn with thousands of peers in the global data platform community.
Two Centric Consulting data professionals will speak at the event.
Data Storytelling
Data and Analytics Practice Lead Becky Gandillon will present a learning pathway session titled “Data Storytelling: Your New Super-Power” on Wednesday, November 6, from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. as part of the analytics track.
In her session, Gandillon will explore the skill of translating complex data and analyses into engaging narratives that even non-technical audiences can easily understand and act on.
Gandillon will highlight how data storytelling combines the creativity of master narrators with the analytical acumen of data experts, bridging the gap between raw information and practical application. Attendees will learn techniques to make data more engaging, relatable and actionable.
“If you think in Venn diagrams, imagine the circle of really excellent storytellers that make you want to pay attention, like Steven Spielberg, Walt Disney, or Taylor Swift. Layer on top of that another circle of people – people [who] really get numbers. They organize their lives in spreadsheets and databases,” she said. “Now try to see the overlap of those two groups. The ones who think in numbers and speak in stories. It’s a rare combination. Those are the data storytellers.”
Data Infrastructure
Senior Architect Josh Higginbotham will present “Building Resilient Environments: Incorporating Security and Compliance into Database Monitoring.” Higginbotham’s session will be part of the general session on the architecture track on Thursday, November 7, from 3:45 to 5 p.m.
“Database security and compliance aren’t just IT issues — they’re fundamental to business success in the digital age,” Higginbotham said. “As data becomes increasingly valuable, it also becomes a prime target. Our challenge is to create environments that are not only secure and compliant but also agile and responsive to business needs. This isn’t about building impenetrable fortresses. It’s about fostering a culture of security that empowers innovation while protecting our most critical assets. In this rapidly evolving landscape, adaptability and vigilance are key.“
Participants will learn how to enhance data security by identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities, as well as how to ensure data availability and continuity of service, implement effective access control measures, and conduct thorough audits to maintain compliance with industry standards. Higginbotham will also discuss how to secure your monitoring infrastructure and solutions.
“There’s been a nearly 20 percent rise in breaches from 2022 to 2023, with about 80 percent of these incidents stemming from compromised database security,” Higginbotham said. “This presentation will emphasize the importance of robust security measures and regulatory compliance.”
Redgate will host the 2024 PASS Data Community Summit. Other sponsors include AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft.
