The Business Need

One of the world’s largest food producers and marketers considered it vital to understand how the cost of raw materials affects the price of finished goods. However, with disparate production systems this process was very time and resource intensive. The company needed a system to consolidate the data from the production systems and provide a mechanism for the finance group of each line of business to run forecasts on raw material costs.

Centric’s High-Impact Approach

The Company’s Web and Workflow team partnered with Centric to implement a Cost Simulation System. Centric conducted a series of interviews with the Company’s financial planners and traders to gain firsthand knowledge of the current process. Centric used proven object oriented analysis and design practices to build a .NET system to run on desktops. Centric also helped create user documentation and was involved in training the entire user base.


Under a very tight timeframe, the Cost Simulation tool successfully deployed for the financial planners and traders. The new tool eliminated hours of manual work and enabled users to create finished cost reports based on a specific period or on an ad hoc basis.
