Get to Know Me
I’m married with four children and one grandchild. I coach youth basketball and volunteer at Crossroads Community Church in Oakley, Ohio. I enjoy taking advantage of the many different things our region has to offer from museums to zoos to local professional & collegiate sports teams.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
During a particularly stressful time in my late teens, my grandfather pulled me aside and told me to simply “grow duck feathers”. There are times when letting things roll off your back like water off a duck is the best thing for you. I’ve handled difficult and stressful situations much differently since that day.
What’s your hidden talent?
I have a gift for reading defenses and calling plays and I’ve been doing this for the Cincinnati Bengals for many years now. Apparently, they can’t hear me from section 203 of the stadium so this talent remains “hidden”!
What’s your favorite book and why?
My favorite book is “Between the World and Me” by Ta-Nehisi Coates, published in 2015. It’s a letter from Coates to his teenage son about his thoughts and feelings about our American society and how it affects his parenting. There were many thoughts and feelings expressed in the book that I’ve had or still have. As a father with four boys in the house from teenager to toddler, I really appreciated his perspective.
