Google Apps Migration

Centric Consulting improves internal communications by switching to Google Apps

The Business Need

As a company we were quickly outgrowing our current hosted e-mail solution. We had a need for a corporate shared calendar and for tools that would allow better project collaboration. We also run a very lean organization in comparison to our size, and needed a solution that did not require large amounts of on-going support costs.

Centric’s High-Impact Approach

Key objectives associated with this engagement included:

  • Assess the SaaS options available in the market using a vendor-neutral approach
  • Identify gaps in the current market offerings
  • Provide recommendations for solutions that meet Centric’s requirements

Key activities performed over the course of this engagement included:

  • Interviewed key stakeholders and users
  • Conducted detailed analysis of existing internal software applications
  • Identify potential SaaS solutions
  • Educated management on the history and current state of the SaaS market
  • Analyzed SaaS solutions against internal applications for fit, viability, etc. using the following criteria:
    • Data integration requirements
    • Infrastructure complexity
    • Vendor stability
    • Proprietary nature of the application solution
    • Alignment with existing internal systems and support capabilities
    • Data sensitivity and security requirements

The result was a very successful Google Apps selection and implementation. Today all 500 of our employees and contractors currently collaborate via Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs. Going with a SaaS model for Business Productivity Apps has allowed us to achieve significant cost savings in comparison to the other on premise and hosted solutions we assessed, and has allowed us to invest in other initiatives more strategic to our core consulting business.
