IT Organizational Assessment
Centric assesses, benchmarks and makes recommendations to enhance IT operations.
The Business Need
A regional water company provides more than 100 million gallons of water each day to more than 800,000 people in a metropolitan area and neighboring counties. In recent years, the IT group successfully installed several critical applications including finance, human resources, CIS and mobile dispatch. However, the new applications required a new IT infrastructure, and IT resources strained to support the business effectively.
Centric’s High-Impact Approach
The water company sought help from Centric to review IT operations and staffing needs. Management realized that Centric’s independent perspective would provide useful insights on how to handle ongoing IT operations in conjunction with upcoming strategic initiatives.
In performing its assessment and review of the IT organization, Centric provided the following services, all of which were documented in a final report to executive management:
- Reviewed and analyzed business and IT strategic plans, staffing plans and operating budgets
- Interviewed executives, IT management and users throughout the business
- Analyzed comparative benchmarking of similar organizations
- Recommended a road map for organizational alignment, IT staffing levels and IT process improvements
Company executives and IT management were extremely pleased with the results of the evaluation, which provided not only factual data but also key themes from the business in terms of what services the IT organization should provide. The company is currently developing an action plan based on the recommendations in the report and may engage Centric to assist in subsequent projects.
