Employee Directory At Your Finger Tips: Centric’s Application Development Enables Clients Through Enterprise Mobility
The Business Need
Centric’s employee population has exceeded 400 consultants driven by a purposeful growth strategy and client demand. To keep overhead costs low, Centric’s Shared Services group has been executing a strategy to build cloud-based operational platforms that expose company data via web services. An initial goal of our cloud-based back office platform was to provide easy access to our corporate directory of HR data for employees and contractors.
Centric’s High-Impact Approach
Centric was also looking for creative ways to help our clients get started with mobile development and deployment by educating them on modern cloud based architectures that take advantage of mobile, location awareness, cloud, and social networking capabilities. Our Technology Service Line funded an Innovation and Research Mobility project designed to stretch and expand our mobile development capabilities while at the same time illustrating to our clients how to architect and build mobile applications.
Centric’s Mobile Innovation and Research initiative has three distinct phases:
- The first phase expands Centric delivery capabilities via training as well as building applications that further equip our mobile work force. The result is our Centric Contacts App currently available to our employees for Apple iPhone and Google Android handsets.
- The second phase deploys the Contacts app at some of our select clients and expands the app interface options to other sources of HR data such as Peoplesoft, Salesforce.com, SAP and others, as well adding additional client-specific features.
- The final phase is a commercial version of the Contacts app, allowing anyone to create a contact list and grant access to anyone using the smart-phone app. This cloud-enabled app provides a unique demonstration vehicle for our clients interested in understanding the practical application of cloud architectures.
