Centric Consulting Cleveland practice leaders reflect on how a college alumni connection shaped their careers.
Centric Consulting’s Cleveland team leads Joe Smucny and Kelsey Fyfe, were recently featured in their alumni publication, University of Dayton Magazine, in “First, a Call. Next, a Calling.”
As a University of Dayton student, Fyfe was working with Flyer Enterprises, one of the nation’s largest student-run businesses. Her team was exploring creating a consulting service for nonprofit organizations.
To learn how consulting worked, she turned to UD’s alumni network. The outreach led her to Smucny, a 1992 graduate who had launched Centric’s Cleveland practice. Smucny invited her to meet the team, where she made an immediate impression. Her genuineness and confidence stood out right away.
“I told the others that I was going to work for her one day,” Smucny said.
Fyfe joined Centric in January 2020 and later became a partner, continuing to work alongside Smucny in the Cleveland practice. She credits him with showing her what leadership looks like both inside and outside the office: being active in the community, building connections, helping others succeed and living Centric’s core values.
“He’s one of the most constructively direct people I know. You’re never second-guessing where you stand or what you need to focus on,” Fyfe said.
