Our core purpose is to create unmatched client and employee experiences. Each of us has our own perspective on what transforms any interaction into “above and beyond” territory, and defining “unmatched” may often look different from person to person.
With that in mind, there are still some key behaviors that most will agree will almost always take an experience to that next level – or at the very least, communicate that you care and are invested. 1. Be a “safe pair of hands.”
The value of being trustworthy cannot be understated. Doing what you say you will, even if it’s the small things like following up on an email, is a good first step toward showing that you can be trusted with larger tasks.
2. Pay attention to detail.
This one really goes without saying. “The devil is in the details,” as they say!
3. Be the “go-to” expert for something.
What is something you’re naturally talented at? Invest in that talent and refine it – make yourself the expert others will go to for advice. Your colleagues will thank you!
4. Think before you act.
Likely, many of us have seen or perhaps personally experienced a time where genuine enthusiasm to accomplish a task led to overlooking something important in the process (again, the details!), and suddenly, you’re working twice as hard to fix it. Think through things thoroughly and critically before acting.
5. Be resourceful.
“It’s not what you know. It’s who you know!” Surround yourself with a variety of different people from different backgrounds and skill types. Knowing who you can turn to in a tricky spot is just as important as being that go-to for someone else.
6. Ask (good) questions.
Practice deep listening to discover what’s most important to someone, and then make sure to ask helpful, structured questions in response, delivering results that will be the most appreciated.
