We talk to Salesforce Consultant Ben Sanker about how he ended up at Centric, his career goals and what he thought of our new Salesforce Training and Development Program.
1. What did the recruiting process look like? Did you find Centric, or did Centric find you? Tell us why you joined Centric.
It was a mix of both. Before joining Centric, I was in the military for eight years and was contemplating a career change. I was talking to my lifelong friend who has been with Centric for a while. He asked me if I’d ever had an interest in Salesforce since it was a growing profession and would only expand in the coming years. I looked at some trailheads and career progression and felt good about the job and what was involved.
The timing of this conversation was perfect as the Salesforce Training and Development Program was in its infancy. So, I decided to take the plunge and was picked to be the first of many through this new program. Once I started to understand the dynamic of Centric, I started to realize how inclusive and progressive the company is and how this would be a perfect fit for my family and me.
2. Tell us about the Salesforce Training and Development program. What are the core components of the program, and what parts of the program did you find most beneficial? How did the training program help you in your career path?
Centric’s Salesforce Training and Development Program is very well laid out for people who do not have any prior knowledge or work with Salesforce. But at the same time, it is very flexible, based on your knowledge level and how much time you can devote to work. It was extremely easy for me to participate in the program around my temporary, part-time schedule, so I am excited to see how it will work once I start full time.
Some of the most beneficial aspects are the straightforward learning paths that give you a clear understanding of what you should be studying and what is to come next. Also, it is amazing that other members of the Centric team – who are not in the program – are always willing to step up and help you, whether it’s through mentorship or shadowing actual work. The program lays out a lot of the different career paths available in the CRM field in detail, making it easy for you to start focusing on what interests you most, with no cost if you change your mind later down the line.
3. Describe the role of a Salesforce consultant at Centric. What is this job like? What do you like most about the job?
Your role as a consultant is to establish a working relationship with the customer, making sure to understand how their business operates in the scope of Salesforce. You are there to understand their pain points and what they need to make their job easier. Then, you get to explain ways our service can help make their job easier and work with them to provide valuable and trackable results that can help them improve efficiency. My favorite part so far is hearing the customers’ stories of processes and pain points they’ve had for years and then showing them their new solution. Just seeing that smile light up and the excitement they have is amazing.
4. How does your current role at Centric fit into your career path and goals?
My current role will help me gain the experience and training I need to be more confident in customer interaction, in turn making me a better consultant overall. I strive to gain as much knowledge as possible and be the guy with all the answers. But choosing this career was a choice for my family. I am about to have my first child and being able to be home all day and connect with him will be worth it all. Having less work stress and more time with my family means everything to me, and Centric provides that and more!
5. What tips would you share with future Centric recruits?
Do not be afraid to ask questions! The team around you has vast amounts of knowledge and is more than willing to provide you with answers. Take it slow, do not feel rushed into getting certified as soon as possible. Take advantage of those shadowing opportunities and time with your team. They are your most valuable resource.
6. Centric values work-life balance. Please share some of your hobbies or special interests outside of work.
My wife and I love going out and exploring the National Forests. We love finding the hidden swimming holes and enjoying the sun and water. I also enjoy playing video games with my friends and Airsoft on the weekends. My wife and I are avid foodies and love finding hole-in-the-wall places to enjoy a meal. Soon, I hope to explore the world with my son, and I cannot wait to watch and learn from him!
